24 May 1825, Deed Record, Bk. Y, p. 303, Bedford Co., TN – Stephen Cook to Zadoc Winn, 62 and ½ acres and 35 acres, ten hundred dollars. Bob

Bob Said: A pre-1825 ownership map of this area shows this land to be a short distance northwest of Lewisburg, TN. An adjacent tract of 85 acres and a nearby tract of 50 acres is owned by Zadoc Wynn. Strangeman Hutchins, the future father-in-law of Zadoc’s sisters, Jane and Winifred, owned land adjacent to the 85 acre and 50 acre tracts. I believe Strangeman Hutchins and his family and Minor H. Winn and some members of his family moved to western IL shortly before 1830.

18 Dec. 1826, Circuit Court Record, Maury Co., TN – Zadack or Zadock Winn of Maury Co., TN, listed as surety in suit involving Minor H. Winn and John Hatchett. Bob

Bob Said: This source may indicate a relationship between Zadok and Minor (son and father?).

20 Aug. 1829, Deed Record, Bk. P, p. 75, Maury Co., TN – Zadoc Winn, a resident of Bedford Co., TN, to James Kenedy, 88 and ½ acres of land “on Glabe [or Globe] Creek a branch of Fountain Creek the waters of Duck River. Witnesses: Jesse Brukeen [Brecheen] and Jas. C. Records. Bob

Bob Said: Zadok is assumed to have moved from Bedford Co. to Maury Co. sometime in 1829 or 1830.

Maury co. TN census - Zedekiah Wynn, age 30-40, b. 1790-1800. Three other males, and two females.

Bob Said: This census information matches known family members.

6 July 1837, Deed Record, Marshall Co., TN - – “I, Zadoc Winn, have sold to Isaac H. Hill for the sum of one dollar the following property, to wit, one light bay mare, and one brown mare and one mare mule, forty head of hogs, ten head of sheep, two head of cattle, two beds steads and furniture and all of my household and kitchen furniture and two saddles.”Additional language in the Trst Deed executed by Zadok Winn states it was for “the benefit of John M. Patrick and Wm. Osburn and Richard Hill .Bob

4 Dec. 1837, Court Minutes, Marshall Co., TN, Vol. A - “Ordered by the court that William Stone, William M. Orr, Richard Wilks, Zadoc Winn, Milton B. Holt and Tolber Arthurs be appointed to jury of review to lay off and mark a road commencing at William Stones terminating at Mooresville….”

2 Feb. 1838, Chancery Court Record, William Wilks et al vs. John Wilks, Jr., Maury Co., TN – Zadock Winn, Buy, Bob

Bob Said: This 1838 information is out of sync with Marshall Co. information unless Zadok had homes in both counties.

5 Feb. 1838, Court Minutes, Marshall Co., TN, Vol. A - Ordered by the Court that Milton B. Holt be appointed overseer of the road from William Stones to Mooresville in room of Zadock Wynee.”

NOTE: Apparently, Zadok decided not to continue or was not reappointed as overseer of the road.

Bob Said: The census information matches known family members.

1 Oct. 1840, Court Minutes, Marshall Co., TN, Vol. A, p. 425 – On motion it is ordered by the Court that the following hands work on the road leading from Lewisburg to Mooresville where F. F. Dyer is overseer, to wit….Zadoc Winn….”

Bob Said: It could be assumed from this record that Zadoc lived on or near the road from Lewisburg to Mooresville, Marshall Co., TN.

Bob Said: Mary was the oldest known daughter of Zadok and Elizabeth (Brecheen) Winn.

16 March 1843, Marriage Index, Marshall Co., TN – Larkin Davidson Winn m. Sophia M. Luna Bob

Bob Said: Larkin was the oldest known son of Zadok and Elizabeth (Brecheen) Winn.

19 Aug. 1844, Marriage Index, Giles Co., TN – Minor H. Winn m. Jane M. Patrick Bob

Bob Said: Minor H. Winn was the second oldest known son of Zadok and Elizabeth (Brecheen) Winn.

U. S. Census, Giles Co., TN - Zadoc Winn, age 49, b. ~1801 in SC 1 - eight males and three females -(farmer).

Bob Said: This is the record that establishes the father-son relationship of Zadok Winn and Jesse Z. N. Winn. There are no apparent county boundary changes in the area between 1841 and 1850 so the Winns moved from near Lewisburg, Marshall Co., TN, to near Lynnville, Giles Co., TN.

14 Dec. 1851, Marriage Index, Washington Co., AR – John (M?) Winn m. Eliza Jane Craig

Bob Said: John H. Winn was the third oldest known son of Zadok and Elizabeth (Brecheen) Winn. John is believed to have moved with his father, mother and remaining unmarried siblings to Washington Co., AR, probably in the summer of 1851. In 1852, John was the first of his immediate family to move to the Oregon Territory. James Morgan Winn, Arminda (Winn) Davis, Eunice “Nicy” Winn and Jesse Z. N. Winn followed in 1865. Coleman D. Winn moved to Oregon Territory in 1867. Bob put directly under steps heading???
