2 CONC comes from an article title, "JOHN MINOR OF WESTMORELAND  COUNTY
2 CONC VIRGINIA." No author given. this states in part, "It is only known
2 CONC that John Winn m.a Elizabeth Minor and because Elizabeth daughter of
2 CONC John Minor (Will of 1698) was the only Elizabeth Minor in that area at
2 CONC that time, she is belived to be the one."

2 CONC THE COMPLETE BOOK OF EMIGRANTS, by Peter Coldham, which covers the
2 CONC period between 1607-1660 of Va., does not list any Minor, any spelling
2 CONT having came to Va. during that period, neither does it list a Jane and
2 CONC John Kidwalider. It does list on page 465 a Jane and John Kidwillar.
2 CONC Dated 1 Aug 1660. ''The following bound to John Woory, merchant to
2 CONC serve in Nevis, John Kidwillar, yeoman for 5 years. Jane Kidwillar,
2 CONC spinster for 5 years."It is  difficult to belive had the Minors been
2 CONC in Va. prior to 1627 that they would have not showed up in some of the
2 CONC many records covered in this  book.

2 CONT  Richard Winns children, son of John Winn and Elizabeth Minor, were
2 CONC born in Middlesex County. My point is, doesn't it seem possible that
2 CONC Elizabeth Minor could have been the daughter of many of the other
2 CONC Minors in that area of Middlesex? There was a family of Minors who
2 CONC settled there ca 1673.

2 CONT In his preface he states,"In an old Bible which belonged to my father
2 CONC Dr. Charles Minor, and which is now in my possession, he wrote  the
2 CONC following memorandum in 1853". (And here I will not take word for word
2 CONC just the high points.)    "Dr. Charles Minor and all his kindred are
2 CONC descend from a  Dutchman named Doodes Minor who was admitted to full
2 CONC citizenship in 1673  by an act of Assembly found in "Hennings Statutes
2 CONC at Large." v.1 308.  Along with four other compatriots Maindort Doodes
2 CONC and his son Doodes Minor were Naturalized by an act of a Grand
2 CONC Assembly,  holden in James City the 12 Sept. 1673. They were to have
2 CONC all rights and privileges including those of free traffique and
2 CONC trading
2 CONT that were allowed to any natural b. Englishman of the Colony.
2 CONC Maindort Doodes made his will 1677 signed his name Maindort Doodes and
2 CONC named his son as Doodes Minor.  There are some who belive Doodes Minor
2 CONC was an Englishman, but if so why should he be naturalized when coming
2 CONC to an
2 CONT English colony as Virginia was at that time? Maindort Doodes, a Dutch
2 CONC Sea Captain. His will was sealed with his signet ring bearing the
2 CONC impress of a Dutch Ship of the 17th Century. Doodes Minor, who married
2 CONC Elizabeth Cocke, settled on the  Rappahannock and its waters in County
2 CONC of tfiddlesex.  He had four sons,  Garret Minor, Minor Minor, John
2 CONC Minor, and Peter Minor.  Doodes son Peter was  apprenticed by his
2 CONC mother Mrs. Elizabeth Minor to a Boston ship  Capt John Phillips in
2 CONC 1677.  He afterwards ran away from his Master and never came home. A
2 CONC letter from him to his brother Garret,  written at Rotterdam, was in
2 CONC possesssion, I think of the second Garret's son Samuel 0. Minor. I

2 CONT made a copy of this letter which was burned  by a kinswoman. dislikinq
2 CONC the humble life in which it exhibited her collateral Ancestors.  This

2 CONC half way between Middlesburg and the Plains of Fauquier Co., VA not

2 CONT Minor Winn II probably marrie in Westmoreland Co., Margaret O'Connor
2 CONC from Ireland. His will was made 31 July 1775 and was supplemented Feb
2 CONC 5, 1778 and was probated in Fauquier Co., VA July 1778. A copy of it
2 CONC is furnished in the 1931 family history.

2 CONT He owned considerable land and there are various old records of land
2 CONC transactions namely in Orange County Order Book 2 page 43, June 1737;
2 CONC "Minor Will of St. Margarets parish Caroline Co., bought land in
2 CONC Orange Co., VA. Caroline County order book 1732-1740, suit of Minor
2 CONC Winn against Augustine Moregal was dismissed July 13, 1735. Orange
2 CONC County order book 2 page 43-43; Minor Winn sold land in Orange County
2 CONC to Frances Thorton on June 23, 1737. Loudoud County. Joseph Holtzclaw
2 CONC of Prince William sold to Minor Wiin of Prince William County 300
2 CONC acres on North Branch of Goose Creek on Dec. 10, 1763.  On May 3, his
2 CONC wife Margaret sold a lot in Leesburg, Loudoun, D. B. Page 594, and on
2 CONC 27 APRIL 1771, Minor Winn and Margaret O'Connor of Fauquier Co., sold
2 CONC 358 acres in Loudoun County.

2 CONT They had 9 children, 5 sons served in the Revolutionary War, all
2 CONC holding commissions ranging from Coloney to Leiutenant. They all
2 CONC married and raised interesting families.

2 CONC Fairfield, and laid out the town of Winnsboro, South Carolina.

2 CONT Colonel William Winn was living at "76," a town and military station
2 CONC in western South Carolina in 1790.  He served with distinction in the
2 CONC Revolutionary War, returned to Virginia and moved to Lexington,
2 CONC Kentucky.  Colonel William Winn lived in Craven, now Spartenburg,
2 CONC South Carolina and lastly in Charleston, South Carolina.

2 CONT The date of his death is not known but he is buried beside the first
2 CONC wife, Dorthea Wright, of his brother, Colonel John Winn at Winnsboro,
2 CONC South Carolina.

2 CONT The deed book 6, p. 134, Fauquier County, Virginia. William Winn of
2 CONC Craven County, South Carolina appointed his son-in-law, Matthew Smith
2 CONC of Fauquier County, VA his attorney.  Matthew Smith had married Martha
2 CONC Winn who was the remaining heiress of Ann Lingan whom William Winn
2 CONC referred to as his former wife.  This power of attorney was witnessed
2 CONC by James Winn, Minor Winn Sr.

2 CONT Colonel William Winn married two times. First Ann Lingan of Baltimore,
2 CONC Maryland about 1753 and they had one daughter, Martha, who married
2 CONC Matthew Smith of Fauquier County, Virginia. He married second about
2 CONC 1764, Rosa Hampton, daughter of John Hampton and Margaret Wade of
2 CONC Fairfax County, Virginia, an aunt of General Wade Hampton.

2 CONT Zadok Winn spent the early years of his life in SC and then moved to
2 CONC central TN, where he engaged in farming for about 30 years (large land
2 CONC holdings indicate farming as an occupation). He left TN between 1850
2 CONC and 1852 and moved to Wash. Co., AR, where many of his relatives lived
2 CONC (i.e., mother, brother, sisters, nieces and nephews).

2 CONT The move proved very unfortunate for Zakdok and his family. Robert G.
2 CONC Winn writes of the family "It is not known wheather Winn Creek was
2 CONC first called by that name merely because Zedrick (Zadok) Winn was the
2 CONC first white man to settle above the headwaters or wheather it was
2 CONC called so after his tragic drowning in the stream. Zedrick Winn
2 CONC arrived in sothern Wash. County from TN in 1832 with his brother James
2 CONC Minor Winn [date is questionable considering what is known about
2 CONC Zadok's life chronology]. James homesteaded in what is now West Fork
2 CONC and Zedrick settled on the mountain above the creek that bears his
2 CONC name and was drowned in its flood of 1852.
2 CONT
2 CONT "The autumn of 1852 had been exceptionally wet and the ground was
2 CONC saturated on that day when Zedrick Winn rode his horse to transact
2 CONC business with his brother James in West Fork. During his stay in the
2 CONC valley, heavy rains fell along the branches above the crossing.  Night
2 CONC was falling as he rode homeward. Exactly what happened on that dark
2 CONC night is not known.  There were no witnesses to the tragedy. The badly
2 CONC battered body of Zedrick Winn was found among debris along the bank of
2 CONC the stream late the following day."

2 CONT Other than the marriages of two children (Arminda and Zadok) in 1856
2 CONC and 1857 and 1860 census records for three children (Minor, Arminda
2 CONC and Zadok), very little is known about the family's early years in
2 CONC Arkansas.  Zadok's wife and five of his children have not been found
2 CONC in 1860 census records.

1 NOTE My grandmother Clements was a loner, having been widowed a long time
2 CONC and never remaried after Mr. Clements died well before I can remember.
2 CONC She lived with us in Atwater in a spare room my dad added onto our
2 CONC house. When we moved to Tracy, my father bought a junk yard from Bill
2 CONC Young at 13280 W. Byron Rd.  We cleared the junk off the 1-2 acre
2 CONC site, put in water, electric and a septic tank. Then we bought and
2 CONC placed a trailer in the back by the irrigation drainage ditch.

2 CONT We moved a trailer onto the front of the property in front of the old
2 CONC Johnson's store that had been moved from Tracy to the property and my
2 CONC Grandmother live in that trailer. I remember people complaining that
2 CONC we were deveoping a trailer court without a license. The first time I
2 CONC heard the name of Frank Hoyt, my future wife's Grandfather, was when
2 CONC my dad was on the phone arguing with him over this issue. My dad had
2 CONC been told that Frank, the county supervisor was approachable on
2 CONC issues.

2 CONT Grandmother would come over to our trailer for dinners often. After
2 CONC supper, she would always say, "I ate too much, I gotta go home" and

2 CONC on west (or other directions). They didn't always leave a paper trail
2 CONC and sometimes it seem like they fell off the face of the earth.

2 CONT Of him, it may be truly said he believed God: for his faith was always
2 CONC child-like and unwavering. He suffered very much during his last years

2 CONC seemed not a time of mourning but one of victory.

2 CONT Joseph Ruff, age 74, died at the home of his son, W. G. Roof, ten
2 CONC miles northwest of Whichita Wednesday morning of Brights Disease. He
2 CONC has been ill over 2 years. Mr. Ruff came to Sedgwick County in 1884
2 CONC from Farifield Co., Ohio. Until two years ago, he was employed as a
2 CONC clerk in Tapps grocery store on North Main Street.

2 CONT Mr. Ruff was a decendant of an old family in Germany and he retained
2 CONC the german spelling of his name in order not to lessen the validity of
2 CONC his claim to whatever estates might have been left him in Germany. He
2 CONC refused to change the spelling of Roof. Before he moved to Kansas, he
2 CONC heard that there was an estate left him in Germany but was never able
2 CONC to get it.

2 CONT He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Oliver Jones of Protection and
2 CONC Mrs. J. M. Alexander of Goddard. Two sons, W. J. Roof and John Roof of
2 CONC St. Louis. One sister in Wichita. one brother and two half-sisters in
2 CONC Ohio and one half-brother, John G. Walker of Wichita.

2 CONT Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon from the sons home at
2 CONC 2:00 P.M.  Interments will be made in Jamesburg Cemetery.

2 CONT Gwydir Castle  is located ½ mile West of Llanrwst on B5106. Gwydir
2 CONC Castle is situated in the beautiful Conwy Valley and is set within a
2 CONC romantic 10-acre garden. Built by the illustrious Wynn family c1500,
2 CONC Gwydir is a fine example of a Tudor courtyard house, incorporating
2 CONC re-used medieval material from the dissolved Abbey of Maenan. Further
2 CONC additions date from c1600 and c1826. Both house and gardens are
2 CONC undergoing a phased programme of restoration, most notably the
2 CONC re-installation of the important 1640s dining room paneling, recently
2 CONC returned from the New York Metropolitan Museum.

2 CONT In 1921 this Tudor courtyard house was desecrated. The 17th century
2 CONC wall and ceiling decorations of the main dining room were stripped.
2 CONC The carved and gilded panelling was sold at auction, bought by the

2 CONC panels were inherited by the Metropolitan Museum of Art and until
2 CONC recently languished in storage.

2 CONT The new owners of Gwydir traced the long lost panels and negotiated
2 CONC with the museum which generously allowed their return to Wales. They

1 NOTE Bea was a  lady who seemed to seen into the minds of others. Actually,

2 CONC this way?" She was loved by all who knew here, especially her four
2 CONC boys.

2 CONT Her husband, Ralph was away for some years-moving around in his job
2 CONC with Southern Pacific Railroad. Bea worked first as a waitress. After
2 CONC the boys grew up, she went back to work, managing the Greyhound Bus
2 CONC station in Atwater, California and was partners in the local  taxi
2 CONC service. Both the bus depot and the taxi operated out of the old
2 CONC Southern Pacific railway station until it was torn down.

2 CONT After moving to Tracy, California, she worked for many years at the
2 CONC Sears catalog store as a receiving clerk. She was always a hard worker
2 CONC and adored by co-workers.

2 CONT She like tomatoes. She canned fruits, pickeled cucumbers and made
2 CONC home-made relish and bread. She was acomplished at sewing and made
2 CONC many of the families clothes, rugs, and quilts.

2 CONT borned January 15, 1877 in Beaver Township, Fillmore Co., Minnesota.
2 CONT Bill was never married.  He came to Pilot Point, Texas, with his
2 CONT family by covered wagon.    A few years Bill, Pete Kinney,
2 CONT and Grandma Smart drove a herd of cattle through to Clinton, Oklahoma,
2 CONT where they sold them.  Bill returned to Texola, Texas and had a
2 CONT grocery store with George Smart.  They sold and moved to Parkerburg,
2 CONT Oklahoma, then to Clinton, Oklahoma.  He and George had a store in
2 CONT Cloud Chief, Oklahoma, then to Range, Tyrone, Oklahoma.  In the
2 CONT Panhandle of Oklahoma.  In 1918 he helped his brother-in-law. He moved
2 CONT from Clinton, Oklahoma, to Range, Oklahoma.  Here he and Ross Pafford
2 CONT started the Range Valley Gardens.  The Dam of water washed several
2 CONT times and had to rebuild the Dam.  Later 1920 Bill and several men
2 CONT went to drilling oil wells, two miles northwest of Range, Oklahoma.
2 CONT Later Bill, after World War II, he came out to Wenatchee, Washington
2 CONT for several years working in the fruit orchards.  Later years after
2 CONT returning to Oklahoma,    Bill and Charles had a grocery store in
2 CONT Tyrone, Oklahoma.  Later years, Bill worked at Texas County Jailer, in
2 CONT Guymon, Oklahoma, for several years.  He retired and moved to
2 CONT Sentinel, Oklahoma to his sisters place Manda Taylor, to take life

1 NOTE J. O. Smart was born in Denton County, Texas in 1884.  He was one of
2 CONT eleven children.  His father died when he was small and his mother
2 CONT moved to a farm near Clinton, Oklahoma, where he grew up.  He was
2 CONT married to Ethel Jones, a native Oklahoman, in 1909.  J. O. and Ethel
2 CONT had one son, Roy, who was born November 2, 1910. J. O. farmed for a
2 CONT few years then moved into Clinton where he worked in a grocery store
2 CONT for a year.  While there, Doctor White asked him to go to west Texas
2 CONT and look after two farms he owned.  One farm was near Pampa and the
2 CONT other near Old Ochiltree.  The family made the trip out to Pampa in a
2 CONT regular moving wagon with wagon sheet and bows in 1916.  The weather
2 CONT was very cold, but when they arrived in Pampa, they had a house.  At
2 CONT Ochiltree, however, there was no house and they lived in a tent.  That
2 CONT year one of the best crops ever raised in the Panhandle of Texas was
2 CONT harvested.  The elevators could not take care of all the wheat and it
2 CONT was piled in great ricks on the ground.  Rain was plentiful, the lakes
2 CONT were full and the mosquitoes terrible. J. O. decided to try something
2 CONT besides farming and put in a small meat market at Glazier, Texas,
2 CONT where he prospered until a disastrous fire destroyed much of the town.
2 CONT The market was not burned, but business was hurt by the destruction of
2 CONT other businesses.  The Santa Fe Rail Road Company had men guarding
2 CONT bridges during World War I, and he worked as a bridge guard for a
2 CONT while.  He decided to try the market again and moved to White Deer,
2 CONT Texas.  Mr. Owen Harrah built an addition onto his barber shop and
2 CONT divided it into two small rooms.  Mr. Smart put a meat market in one
2 CONT room and Marlin Heflin put in a small cafe in the other room.  This
2 CONT was one of the first meat markets in White Deer.  He prospered for
2 CONT years.  He got along well with the Polish people and many of them
2 CONT traded with him. Young Roy went to the White Deer school for several
2 CONT years.  The family bought a home on Ohomadora Street in White Deer.
2 CONT They also bought a farm in Beaver County, Oklahoma. J.O. finally
2 CONT decided to try a new location and moved his equipment to Hedley,
2 CONT Texas.  This was not a very good move as he had to rent a place for
2 CONT the market & a house in which to live.  He still owned a house in
2 CONT White Deer and one on the farm.  Rent was not always received on these
2 CONT houses; therefore, he decided to try his luck on the farm.  He farmed
2 CONT for a time, but when Roy started to High School, the family went back
2 CONT to White Deer where Mr. Smart operated a maintain- er on the roads
2 CONT around the area. Roy wanted to finish school in Oklahoma, so the
2 CONT family moved to Hobart, Okla. After finishing high school, Roy and his
2 CONT father went to Washington State where they worked for a year.  They
2 CONT came back to the farm and J. O.'s health failed. Roy was in the
2 CONT Military service and could not help his father.  The doctor told J.O.
2 CONT he had a bad heart condition and that he would have to get off the
2 CONT farm if he wanted to live.  He came to Oklahoma City in Dec, 1944. Roy
2 CONT was discharged from the Army in Jan., 1945, because of the ill health
2 CONT of his father.  Mr. Smart died in the spring of 1945. Mrs. Smart and
2 CONT Roy have remained in Oklahoma City, where they now own a home.
2 CONT Including his years in the Army and his work at Tinker Air Force
2 CONT Base, Roy has spent 28 years in government service.  The Smart family

2 CONT SMART FAMILY HISTORY  James Ota Smart was born in Denton Co. Texas in

2 CONT two farms one in Pampa, Oklahoma and the other  near Old Ochiltree,

2 CONC After the family moved to Washington State, Ralph attended school at
2 CONC Greenacres,  Half Moon Prairie and Wenatchee.  He was married to
2 CONC Beatrice Winn at Wenatchee, 15 Nov 1939.  Later, Ralph moved to
2 CONC Madera, California.  He worked about 6 months on a fruit ranch and in
2 CONC grape vineyards.  In the summer of July, 1940 Ralph went to work for
2 CONC the Northern Pacific Railroad.  Ralph retired from the Southern
2 CONC Pacific Railroad in the spring of 1974 and lived a part of a year out
2 CONC of Vanderhoof, B.C.  Ralph moved to Sequim, WA, bought   a lot and put
2 CONC a mobile home on it.  Ralph and Beatrice had 4 boys.  Beatrice was
2 CONC laid to rest Nov. 15, 1982 at Port Angeles, WA.

2 CONT I was born Ralph Wayne Smart on Jan. 20, 1915, in Clinton, OK. There
2 CONC were five boys and two girls, though one boy died when he was small.
2 CONT
2 CONT My first memories are of Greenacres, WA around 1919. After Greenacres,
2 CONC we moved to Vancouver, WA for a short time. Soon after that, my dad
2 CONC bought an entire ranch (80 Acres) called Half Moon Prairie, 12 miles
2 CONC north of Spokane. We raised lots of fruits and vegetables and sold
2 CONC them in Spokane. In 1925, we bought a brand new  Ford truck (Model-T).
2 CONC That's what we used for hauling the begetables and fruit to Spokane.
2 CONC Before we bought the truck, we used a wagon. Te truck had hard rubber
2 CONC tires insteat of the soft, inflatable used now. Can you imagine how it
2 CONC must have felt to hit a bump? The ranch also had cattle. I remember
2 CONC two of them wandering onto the Great Northern Railroad track and
2 CONC getting killed. I think they paid us $100 for them. Growing on the
2 CONC ranch were every kind of apple and cherry you had ever heard of.
2 CONT
2 CONT My oldest brother, Clifford stole some of the produce money and went
2 CONC to OK to visit relatives. We had no idea where he was until my aunt
2 CONC wrote and told us he was with family there. I thought it was the end
2 CONC of the world without my brother. He just wanted to visit relations.
2 CONT
2 CONT About 1928, we moved to Wenatchee, WA. Instead of asphalt on the
2 CONC streets, they had wooden blocks on end. I remember when it rained, the
2 CONC blocks would soak up the water and make the road all lumpy. When it
2 CONC dried, the road would look like wooden bricks again. We soon moved 9
2 CONC miles south to Squillchuck Canyon. I went to school there for 6th
2 CONC through 8th grade. We no longer had a car, and the school (high
2 CONC school) was too far away for me to attend, so I never went. Because my
2 CONC parents were both ill, I had to work. I worked around Wenatchee for 10
2 CONC years and married Beatrice Winn. We moved to Madera in California.
2 CONT
2 CONT In Madera, I had a job on a ranch. I worked there for quite a while.
2 CONC After that, I went to work for Southern Pacific Truck Lines [Pacific
2 CONC Intermountain Express - PIE]. In 1942 I went to work for the Southern
2 CONC Pacific Railroad. I worked for several years until I finally decided
2 CONC to buy a grocery store/service station. After one year of that, I sold
2 CONC it and went back to work for the railroad. Bea and I had 4 sons,
2 CONC Dewayne, Jack, Randy and Gary. We lived in California until 1975, and
2 CONC then we moved to Sequim, Wa--just Bea and I. No kids. There, we lived
2 CONC at 381 Dungeness Meadows. Bea died in November of 1982 from [stomach]
2 CONC cancer.
2 CONT
2 CONT I married Marsella Merrick in May of 1983. As of 1998, Dewayne lives
2 CONC in Quincy, Illinois, Jack lives in Port Angeles, WA, Randy lives in
2 CONC Grover Beach, CA. and Gary lives in Sequim, WA.

2 CONT Extracts from a history of George and Lora Smart written by their
2 CONC daughter,   Clara Edna:  Began married life on a 160 acre farm 6 miles
2 CONC outside of Clinton, OK.   They sold the farm in 1908, 2 years after
2 CONC settling there and moved with their two children into Cloudchief where
2 CONC George opened and operated a grocery store.   Three children were born
2 CONC to them while they lived in Cloudchief.   Sometime  after the birth of
2 CONC their 5th child in 1912, they moved to a farm that George's brother,
2 CONC Grover, owned in Clinton.  A sixth child was born there in 1915.
2 CONT
2 CONT Clara remembered a hail storm, with hail as large as golf balls.
2 CONC George was just returning from town when the storm hit and he took
2 CONC refuge under the   wagon.  One of the horses pulling the wagon was hit
2 CONC in the eye by a hailstone and lost his eye.   Clara also remembered
2 CONC when Levern, age 3, became lost in the corn field after he followed
2 CONC his older brothers there.  After a lengthy search, he was found  fast
2 CONC asleep in one of the corn rows.   Clara had a vivid memory of the wind
2 CONC and dust storms on the farm. Lora would hang up a clean wash and a big
2 CONC wind would bring it down into the red dirt and she would have to wash
2 CONC the clothes all over again.
2 CONT
2 CONT In 1915 the family moved into town and the older children began
2 CONC school. In the summer of 1915, Lora and the children went to Colville,
2 CONC Washington to visit Grandpa Edgar and Uncle Jim.   The winter of 1916
2 CONC George spent much of his time in bed with rheumatism.   Even touching
2 CONC the bed would cause great pain.   The spring of 1917 the family moved
2 CONC to Washington.  A 7th child was born in Rice, Washington where George,
2 CONC Lora and their family were living with Lora's sister, Willie and her
2 CONC family.  George was getting much better and was able to take care of a
2 CONC large vegetable garden Willie had planted.  (The town of Rice became a
2 CONC lake when Grand Coulee Dam was built.)

2 CONT In the summer of 1917,   the family moved to Kettle Falls where George
2 CONC got work on a farm.  Later, he worked in a cement plant outside of
2 CONC Spokane and the family moved to Greenacres where the 8th and last
2 CONC child was born in 1919.   George went into real estate in 1920/21 and
2 CONC through that he heard of a farm at Halfmoon, near Deer Park. The
2 CONC family bought the farm and moved there in 1923.  The children went to
2 CONC school, walking 2 miles or so, and the older children finished the
2 CONC first 8 grades there--passing the State Tests and  graduating in the
2 CONC spring of 1924.  Clara finished the 9th grade and went on to high
2 CONC school in Greenacres, living with friends.  In the fall of 1926,
2 CONC George sold the farm and moved the family to Goldendale, Washington
2 CONC where Clara graduated from high school in 1928.

2 CONT In the fall of 1928 the family moved to Vancouver, Washington; but
2 CONC after experiencing more rain than they wanted, the family moved to
2 CONC Wenatchee, Wash. in the summer of 1929 where lots of work was found
2 CONC for the family in the fruit orchards.   George's death and burial
2 CONC occurred in Wenatchee in 1934.  The fall of 1936 Lora went to
2 CONC California for the winter and the next fall she moved to Madera,
2 CONC California where the lived until her death in Jan., 1969.

1 NOTE ! THE SMART FAMILY HISTORY notes:   Clifford L. Smart was born Nov 27,
2 CONT 1906 on the Homestead near Stafford,   OK.  He started school at
2 CONT Cordell, OK.  When the family moved to Washington   he attended school
2 CONT at Kettle Falls, Green Acres and Half Moon Prairie. In the   fall of
2 CONT 1935, a year after his father died in Wenatchee, Clifford drove his
2 CONT mother and sister, Helen to Madera, Calif.  After vists back to
2 CONT Washington   they settled in in California in 1937.  He worked there
2 CONT until he was drafted   into the Army in 1942.  He was stationed at
2 CONT Pearl Harbor, guarding the North   Shore from submarines and enemy
2 CONT destroyers.  He served his entire military   duty in the Pacific and
2 CONT Anarctic Theatre--all overseas.  Returning to the   U.S., he was
2 CONT honorably discharged March, 1945, following treatment for   arthritis
2 CONT at the Army/Navy Hospital in Hot Springs, Ark.   He returned to
2 CONT Madera, Cal. for 2 months and left 2 months later for Indian-
2 CONT apolis, Indiana where he married Vivian Schoner, a widow, June 3,
2 CONT 1945.   He worked for the 2nd Army at Fort Benjamin, Harrison, Ind.
2 CONT for 2 years and   then was transferred to Fresno, Calif. to the
2 CONT Veterans Admin. Hospital.   In Jan., 1957, he was divorced.  He worked
2 CONT at the V.A. Hospital until Jan.   1959 when he moved to Wenatchee, WA,
2 CONT buying 14 1/2 acres of cherries.  He   married Jacqueline F. Newell,
2 CONT June 3, 1961.  He sold his cherry ranch and   bought another one of 2
2 CONT acres at Lower Sunnyslope, north of Wenatchee, about   5 miles.

2 CONT his family   moved to Washington State, he attended schools in
2 CONT Greenacres, & Half Moon.   The family moved to Wenatchee in 1926 where
2 CONT the boys worked in the fruit   orchards.  After 8 months training the
2 CONT the Army in 1940, Levern was drafted   into the Army at Fort Lewis,
2 CONT Washington.  He served in Kodiak, Alaska,   Fort Benning, Georgia and
2 CONT France where he made several paratroop jumps.  He   was honorably
2 CONT discharged at Ft. Lewis after the ward ended in 1945.  He   married
2 CONT Helen Robertson, Oct 11, 1947 at Carson City, Nevada.  A few years
2 CONT later Lavern and Helen, with Lavern's brother Estle, went to Guam
2 CONT Island and   operated heavy equipment there.  They worked there
2 CONT several years and before   leaving the island Lavern and Helen were

2 CONT 1954 at Coeur d' Alene, Idaho.  He worked   with Great Northern
2 CONT Railroad until 1966 when an explosing and wreck caused   him serious
2 CONT injury.  He had one son and 3 stepchildren.  He divorced Winford   and
2 CONT married in 1971, at East Wenatchee, Elizabeth Cockrum.  Lavern moved
2 CONT to   Sequim, Washington where he bought a lot and a mobil home.

2 CONC "The Central Baptist" "MRS. MARY P. EDGAR was born in Bullet County,
2 CONC Kentucky, May 2, 1848--was converted in 1881--died in her home in Ray
2 CONC County, Missouri, January 24, 1896. Our sister was loved by all.  In
2 CONC her home she was a queen. 'Her children arise up and call her blessed;
2 CONC her husband also, and he praiset her.'  Her sickness was very severe,
2 CONC but she bore it with patience.  Now she is at rest in the 'glory

2 CONT Edgar  Funeral services for James E. Edgar, 84, Colville, who passed
2 CONT away at a local nursing home Dec. 24, was held Tuesday, Dec. 27, at 2
2 CONT p.m.  from the Moser Funeral Chapel.  Rev. Delbert Elliot officiated
2 CONT with interment at the Highland cemetery.  Edgar was born June 16, 1876
2 CONT at Millwood, Ky. and had been a resident of the Colville area for the
2 CONT past 44 years.  Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Cline and
2 CONT Mrs. Laura Smart both of California and several nephews including
2 CONT Truest Smart of Wenatchee.  Pallbearers were F. G. Rollins, Herman
2 CONT Huguenin, John Chopot, A. P. Rasmussen, Joe Garvey and Henry Hodde."

2 CONT !From a family record, Jim Edgar was born 1878 Millwood, Kentucky.
2 CONT The Edgar family moved out to Richmond, MO.  Years later they moved by
2 CONT covered wagon to Stafford, OK., Custer Co., five miles south of
2 CONT Stafford.  The Edgar family settled a homestead of 100 acres.  Jim
2 CONT Edgar and his father farmed there several years.  Pasco and Jim came
2 CONT out to Colville, Washington, in 1914.  Pasco and Jim brought 40 acres
2 CONT on Colville Mountain, 16 miles north of Colville.  About 1932, Jim
2 CONT bought a place three miles south of Colville from his brother-in-law,
2 CONT Clay.
