MR. & MRS. J. W. HOYT OBSERVE GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY SUNDAY Mr. & Mrs. J. W. Hoyt of Edgar celbrated their golden wedding, Sunday, June 13, 1943, at their home. Open house was held in the afternoon. The children present were: Mrs. Della Fate, H. J. Hoyt and Mrs. Betty Von Spreckelson of Clay Center, Eva Hoyt and Linda Reed of Lincoln and Walter Hoyt of Edgar. Two daughters, Mrs. Priscilla Wood fo McCall, Idaho, and Mrs. Sarah Denny of Creswell, Oregon, were unable to be present. After a mock wedding in the afternoon, refreshments were served to the friends and relatives who had gathered to extend congratulations and best wishes to the honored couple. Two of those who had attended the wedding 50 years ago were present. They are: Mrs. J. W. Hoyt's brothers, Frank Hand of Moorefield, Nebraska, and Homer Hand of Edgar.

Jim, a farmer, lived in Iowa Couth, Iowa, Portis, Kansas and Thomas County, Kansas. James Hoyt, son of Henry Winfield and Rosa (Miller) Hoyt, was born in North English, Iowa, Dec. 23, 1870 and passed away at Fairfield, Nebraska on July 22, 1948 and the age of 77 years, 6 months and 29 days. He was the oldest of four children. He came to Clay County, Nebraska, in 1890. He was engaged in farming until his retirement five years ago. He was married to Sarah Ellen Hand, June 16, 1893. To this union eleven children were born, eight daughters and three sons. A daughter, Nellie, died at the age of one year. A son, Will, died at the age of 11 years and another daughter, Erma Leston, died at the age of 19. Mr. & Mrs. Hoyt lived a married life of close association and comradeship. They clelbrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1943. Mrs. Hoyt preceded him in death on June 15, 1948. James Hoyt leaves to mourn his pasing eight children:
one sister and two brothers:
26 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. At the time of Mrs. Hoyt's death, James Hoyt was too ill to have been notified of the passing of his life mate. In reality, the two departed this life together.--Clay County Sun, Clay Center, Nebraska Thurs, July 29, 1948 page 4 col 3 |

HOLD HOYT SERVICES SATURDAY AFTERNOON Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for James W. Hoyt, 77 year old resident of the Fairfield community who passed away there July 22nd. Mr. Hoyt had resided in that community for better than half a century and was well know over Clay County. The survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Della Fate and Mrs. Bertha Von Spreckelson of Clay Center, Mrs. Priscilla Wood of Hillsboro, Ore., Mrs. Sarah Denney of Sutherland, Ore., Mrs. Eva McNisch of Greenwood, Mrs. Linda Richardson of Newton, Kansas; two sons, Henry of Clay Center and Walter of Hastings; two brothers, W. G. of Fairfield and E. O. Hoyt of Los Angeles. The service was held from the McLaughlin Funeral Home in Fairfield with the Rev. Nye O. Bond of the Clay Center Union church officiating.
